We've
spoken of a possible comparison between Gnicche and Robin Hood, but who was
Robin Hood?
A long time ago in England the nobles lived in wealth but most of the ordinary people were very poor.
The Earl of Huntington was a good man; he helped all the
poor people who lived nearby. He had a son call Robert, he was a good archer and
generous with everyone. The other nobles hated him so they decided to throw him in
prison. His wife died from sadness and when he heard the news, the Earl died.
The
son went to live with his father's friend Lord Lacy and her daughter Marian. One
day he killed a deer in the King's Forest; some men tried to bring him to the
Sheriff of Nottingham, but he ran away. After running and running he found a
thick part of the forest and fell on the ground, breathless. After some days he
met other men living in the forest, they were outlaws and they considered
Robert one of them because he killed a deer in the King's forest. He used to
live with
them in caves or they built rough shelters. One
of his friends suggested he should change his name in Robin Hood, because he
used to keep a hood on his head. All the outlaws respected his skill as an archer but also
admired him for his courage and kindness. The rich and greedy men were
afraid to travel through the forest as they knew that they would have to give up
their money; the honest, simple people knew that Robin was their friend and
would help th
em. Robin's
right-hand was Little John, a very tall and strong man and his good friends were
Friar Tuck, a small and fat man, that caused a lot of troubles to the sheriff of
Nottingham and went to live in the forest and Alan-a-Dale,
a young minstrel that played the
harp for Robin and his men.
For one thing Robin Hood was completely different from Gnicche, he only had one lover in his life, Marian, the daughter of his father's friend. When her father died, Prince John took all their lands and Marian had to live at court, in London. She ran away from the palace, dressed as a boy and met Robin in the forest.
