The Flowers Fair

It's usually held on 25th March, the day of the Annunciation - in fact it's also called the 'Fiera della SS. Annunziata'. It takes place in the area around the church of the same name and its roots can be certainly dated back to the traditional spring festivals. The church had played an important role in the life of the town over the XVIth - XVIIIth centuries as in 1490 it had been the place of a miracle: a statue of the Virgin Mary had been seen crying. There were lots of priests and festivities were solemnly celebrated here. But the miracle of the Madonna del Conforto in 1796 and the chapel later built in the Cathedral in her honour, made the people almost forget this church. Now the church is only full of people as it once was during the Flowers Fair.

Once it was only a flowers market and florists competed to bring there the most magnificent plants and the first flowers of spring, while nowadays you can also find other dealers selling sweets , clothes or other articles.

Some stalls only sell succulent plants, some flowering plants while other ones fruit-bearing plants.
