You’ve just been to the Fortress, haven’t you? Quite impressive, isn’t it? Fancy life there in the Middle Ages and afterwards.. when Arezzo had to fight for freedom and was continuously attacked by neighbour towns…trying to conquer it. This place up here has always been a vital part of the town ever since Roman and even Etruscan times…There was in fact the Forum, that was the main Etruscan administrative centre, with buildings decorated with arches and statues in honour of important people. I know….it’s difficult to imagine it….. It’s so calm and timeless now you can hardly hear the noise of cars….you’re completely immersed in the green…

Well! Come with me… Can you see those ruins there?   They belong to what it was a sacred complex of the triad Jupiter, Juno and Minerva.  Let’s walk on….Now we’re right where you can see a wall of a theatre, just below the big terrace overlooking the old hospital  …and…let’s take this small lane down here… ‘Il vicolo delle Terme’What does Terme  mean? It means Baths… Yes! It was the site of Roman baths…. You’re wondering where I’m taking you? Aren’t you? We’re going to another park which lies right in the heart of the modern town…A much smaller park in size, not far from the station and the Main Street. Its name? It’s simply called ‘The Amphitheatre’ from the ruins of a Roman amphitheatre you can find there.

Romans again, you will say!! Yes! Arezzo was quite important in Roman times, but even more famous and mightier under the Etruscans.
