The Church of St. Jacopo

It was situated in Piazza San Jacopo where now the UPIM department stores are.

We are not certain when this church was exactly built. We presume it was constructed in 1216, as it is indicated on the bell, but  it is also possible that the church already existed by this time. According to the oldest documents it belonged to the Cavalieri Gerosolimitani, the 'ancestors' of the Knights of Malta, in fact the 'Cross of Malta' could be seen both inside and outside the church. In the XVth century  it was quite a big parish. There were some paintings inside and had been restored in the years 1933-34. But in 1967 it was sold and soon afterwards demolished.
