Banca Popolare dell'Etruria e del Lazio

It is situated at 179, Corso Italia.

This building was built in the XVIth century and was one of the many the Albergotti family had in  this area, their coat of arms is in fact still there on the main facade. But it has been much restored and transformed over the centuries. During WW2 a bomb damaged it, but it was soon repaired. Inside there are some remarkable stained-glass windows by Pasquini and a XIVth century stone statue reproducing the Madonna with Child.

The 'Banca Popolare dell'Etruria e del Lazio' was founded in 1882 with the name of Banca Popolare Aretina following the models of the people's banks in Northern Italy. In those years the first industries  had opened in town and there were also quite many craft workshops. People started to have money to invest. It was the first bank of the town. With the passage of time it grew in importance at regional level and its name was changed into 'Banca Popolare dell'Etruria' (Etruria was the name the Etruscans had given to the southern part of Tuscany). It has recently merged with other small banks of Latium and was given the present name.
