Canto dè Bacci

        That is 'Bacci's Corner'

When we say 'Canto dei Bacci' we do not actually mean a building, but simply the corner on the right side of Corso Italia after the crossing with Via Mazzini. This corner has been very important over the centuries. In fact, for example, the Town Council decided to put the first oil lamp there in 1794, while the whole town had to wait until 1811 to be systematically lit.

Until the XVth century it was called 'Ser Cambio', when it was given the present name as it was opposite the Palazzo dei Bacci. This family does not belong to the oldest nobility of the town, in fact we only start to hear of them in the XIVth century as rich Guelfs woollen merchants. It was later famous for its love for art too. They had a private colection which was then given to the Fraternita dei Laici.
